Greetings from New York, folks.
I’ve spent the past couple of days hitting the pavements - sorry, sidewalks - of the Big Apple and as much as I want to share my reflections, there’s something even more pressing to tell you about first.
That is, this week I was on French TV talking about the best spots to find in the 4th arrondissement!
Myself, Flo and Genie from France 24’s French Connections show talked our way into a particularly private section of the Hôtel de Sully and it was such a treat. For those of you who weren’t able to see it live, here’s the link to watch again. If you’ve taken my Marais walking tour, you should recognise some familiar places. If you haven’t taken my Marais walking tour, why not book one now?
Anyway, back to New York and what a memorable trip it’s been so far. I’ve caught up with friends, taken in a basketball game (well, two) and even stumbled upon some tasty treats which remind me of Paris.
Aux Merveilleux de Fred is a top-quality pastry shop that I highlight on my Marais walking tour and I was thrilled to discover they have an outpost here. I sampled their famous cramiques (also known as a brioche) and their croissants (check out the photos below). I’m delighted to report that both were as excellent as you’d find back in Paris. In fact, the brioches were smaller and more manageable, I think they’re onto something here.
Before I leave New York, I want to catch up with as many of you as possible. So, I’ve organised a meet-up at 5pm on Saturday 29 March. Location will be in Manhattan, near Madison Square Garden, message me if you want to join and I’ll share the location. Looking forward to seeing you there!
And lastly, a look ahead: Here’s what’s coming up next on The Earful Tower.
First of all, as you hopefully already know, we’ve launched The Earful Everywhere (which you can find and follow on Instagram, Spotify, iTunes). I’ll probably do two episodes about New York as a warm up, and then the whole Gee clan is off for a European adventure in April.
Where? You’ll find out soon. But it will result in a 10-episode podcast season. And don’t worry, the Earful Tower Paris will continue as normal, every Monday.
Speaking of which, our season finale is quickly approaching and let me tell you, it’s a very special one. We are giving one last ahoy to Marie and Bertrand from My Private Paris. The photo below should help you guess what we have in store for this final episode.
Lots and lots of fun adventures to come, so keep your eyes peeled to find it all out.
Have a fantastic weekend, everyone. And to the New Yorkers, see you Saturday.
Oliver
