Should you visit Paris in the winter?
Here are some things to do during a visit to Paris in the winter.
So: Should you visit Paris in the winter? Short answer: yes. Paris is totally worth visiting in the winter months.
It’s cheaper, there are fewer people, and there are some great winter activities on offer. Personally, I think I prefer a long walk along the Seine when it’s cold and the paths are empty.
In any case, winter in Paris was the focus of today’s Earful Tower podcast episode (Apple, Spotify), which featured Lina and myself discussing the merits and joys of Parisian winters.
After all, we have 22 combined Parisian winters between us, we should know a thing or two about the topic.
Among many other things, mentioned in this episode:
Ice Skating at the Grand Palais
Chateau Vaux-le-Vicomte (an interior room pictured above)
A few words from Chef Tony Xu from Shang Palace (see our video here)
The Petit Palais museum
Lina and I also discussed cozy hotel bars in the episode and our annual cocktail tradition, dating back to the night of my proposal.
This year, we were actually invited to the elegant Shangri-La hotel for dinner. Look, that’s their Christmas tree below. I asked if I could interview the chef and see the kitchen. The dinner was a delicious Chinese-French fusion (think sweet and sour foie gras, for example). And I’d describe the restaurant’s style as “discrete elegance”. You can see the my full chat with the chef on the YouTube video below, which I released last night.
Find more about the Shang Palace restaurant here. If you’re on a tighter budget but still want a special occasion: Their cocktail bar on the ground floor is perfect for a celebratory drink.
At the end of this week’s pod you'll hear from Marie Segura, the co-founder of My Private Paris. She was telling me about the Phantom of the Opera at the Palais Garnier, which is incidentally a lovely way to while away a winter day.
